The Security Industry Association showed that:
· 217,000 people were employed in the New York State Securities Industry in 2000
· In 2001, this number had fallen to 184,000 and 180,000 in 2002
These data indicate a loss of 25,000 jobs for New York City directly after 09/11
The bombing on the 9-11 had a big impact on the employments in the United-States.
Another study showed that:
· In 2000, there were approximitely 520 600 people that were working for United States passenger airlines.
· By the time they reached 2003, there were approximitely 444 700 people working for those companies. It was a significant drop of 14.6 %.
· In many different institutions, the level of employment continued to go down until they reached 2010.
· In 2010, US passenger airlines employment had reach 378 100.
Before the bombing on the World Trade Center on September 9th, 2001, Lower Manhattan was the place where almost all the financial industries were established. Also, they were many communications and business industries, as well as accounting, law firms, publishing firms, and finally insurance company. Most of all, there was a big presence of security industries in that particular area of the town.
After the events, many companies had to relocate their people as soon as possible, and that is why a lot of people lost their jobs. The year after 9-11, the rate of unemployment rose sharply.
9/11 led to the loss of one million jobs and investment equivalent to 3% of the GDP (Gross domestic product), only four months after the attacks.
